From wide-brimmed sun hats to dapper striped tote bags, the Thebault family, founders of New Vernon-based Beaucoup, is on a mission to design accessories and apparel that take shoppers from morning coffee runs to school field trips to weekend escapes.
From wide-brimmed sun hats to dapper striped tote bags, the Thebault family, founders of New Vernon-based Beaucoup, is on a mission to design accessories and apparel that take shoppers from morning coffee runs to school field trips to weekend escapes.
The Beaucoup team—”beaucoup” is French for “much”—includes mother Lisa Thebault of Harding Township, daughters Christie, Lauren and Ali, and daughter-in-law Welyn. Together, the four young moms and their husbands are raising 12 kiddos, ages 1 to 10. “It’s organized chaos,” says the family matriarch.
“The best part of starting this business is spending time with my girls and I couldn’t be happier,” Lisa adds. “I told them up front that I didn’t want to be the ‘mom’ in this relationship, and they have definitely taken that control away.”
Lisa readily agreed to designate her New Vernon home—where her daughters grew up—as headquarters for the burgeoning business. Six months into it, she and entrepreneurial husband Brian have become accustomed to living with packing boxes and bubble wrap on their dining room table and shuffling around bags of trunk-show merchandise. It’s equal parts fulfillment center and family gathering place.
Eldest daughter Christie Maguire of Bernardsville explains, “It sure does take a village. I have five very active children, so trying to find the balance can be a struggle. But our husbands and kids have been our biggest cheerleaders. The kids are the best little models and they help us unpack inventory, carry bags and remind us why we started this business in the first place.”
“The biggest surprise has been how much customers connect with the story behind our brand. They aren’t just buying a bag, they’re buying into a lifestyle, a family and a feeling,” she adds.
Since the business launched in June, the Morristown community has embraced the Beaucoup label. Popular pieces include the Hive mini tote, the large striped tote (designed to corral phones, lip gloss, keys and kid stuff), and wide-brimmed straw “lifeguard hats” for grownups and littles.
Daughter Lauren Fell of Bernardsville says, “We’ve always shared life, traditions and memories, and now we get to channel that into our brand. Our kids are growing up watching us take a chance, learn together, and create something we’re genuinely proud of.”
Their “everyday luxury made simple” philosophy evolved over years of family conversations that eventually became a business plan. Each collection begins with the founders meeting in person to share ideas and pull together inspiration. If they aren’t able to be in the same place, they spend all day sending each other ideas via group chat.
The partners typically go through multiple rounds of prototypes, making small adjustments to size, shape and finishes until each design feels timeless yet fresh. Their focus is on durability and functionality—a comfortable strap, a generous pocket, a versatile color that complements everything. The process continues until they all agree that each piece will work well in real life.
Ali Allen of Far Hills, the youngest of the sisters, notes, “Everyone brings something different to the table, and it’s been really special to see how our individual strengths come together. Calling a ‘work meeting’ and sitting around brainstorming ideas is pretty amazing. There are countless tiny decisions, including sourcing fabrics, designing packaging, photo shoots, social media and shipping. So much happens behind the scenes.”
Sister-in-law Welyn Thebault of Harding Township adds, “For my husband, it’s a dream to have his wife working with his sisters and mother. The greatest part of this has been showing our children the process of building Beaucoup from scratch. Seeing our hard work pay off in a tangible way is an amazing lesson for them.”
She adds, “There’s a lot of love and a lot of gratitude. We’re thankful for our team, our crazy crew and the big beautiful hive we get to build together. Every stitch and every stripe reflects our vision that beauty belongs in everyday life.”
